Lot owners are asked for a yearly contribution toward mowing and upkeep. Any amount helps; the Association suggests a figure each year in its letter to owners.

Keeping the ground
No endowment pays for the mowing. Lot owners and neighbors do, through the Johnson City Masonic Cemetery Association, a volunteer nonprofit.
Who we are
Lot owners looking after their own
Once a family buys a lot, it is theirs — which means, strictly, that keeping it is theirs too. Years ago the people who owned lots here organized an association to do together what none of them could do alone: keep the whole ten acres mowed and trimmed, repair what breaks, and give the historic section, with its brittle curbing, the slow careful attention it needs.
The Johnson City Masonic Cemetery Association is a Texas nonprofit recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 82-5085558), so gifts are tax-deductible. It is separate from the lodge, which owns the land and sells the spaces; many lodge members who own lots are also members of the Association. It meets a few times a year, keeps minutes and accounts, and spends nearly everything it receives on the grounds.
Nothing about that is glamorous. It is the reason the grass is cut when you come to visit.

Memorial gift
A gift in memory of someone interred here, at any time or in place of flowers. The Association acknowledges memorial gifts to the family if you tell us whom to notify.
Three
Bench, tree, or project
Larger gifts can fund a memorial bench at the columbarium, live oaks for the newer sections, or restoration work on the historic curbing. Talk to us about what you would like to see.

Each December
Wreaths Across America
On National Wreaths Across America Day, volunteers lay a balsam wreath on the grave of every veteran here and say each name aloud. The Hill Country Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors the Johnson City Historic Masonic Cemetery as one of seven Blanco County cemeteries in the program; in 2023 they placed wreaths on 120 veterans' graves here.
The next ceremony is Saturday, December 19, 2026, at 10 a.m. Wreaths are sponsored in advance through the Wreaths Across America page for this cemetery, and every sponsored wreath helps the local group toward covering all the veterans. Come to help place them; children are especially welcome.

Workdays and meetings
The Association holds cleanup workdays in the spring, before Memorial Day, and in the fall. Bring gloves, a rake, and water; the Association brings the trailer. Meetings are open to lot owners and anyone who cares about the cemetery. Dates are posted on the Association's Facebook group and here as they are set.
